My Story
I am a former construction project manager and design engineer. I'm a survivor of a life threatening and changing illness.
I have what is known as an acquired brain injury (ABI), chronic illnesses and I am registered as being disabled. I am able to maintain a positive outlook, in spite of my life changing illness, I believe because of the mindset developed through the pastimes I took part in;
Bodybuilding played a huge part, dominating my life from around age 16 to 22. I then studied & practiced jujitsu for many years, took up judo and did road cycling too. Alongside this I became a yoga practitioner which started my self discovery journey to become ‘comfortable in my own skin’. My greatest and most noticeable changes however have come from starting to learn Tai Chi which I continue to practice today.
In February 2017, with help, I set up ‘The Brain Injury Cafe’ - a social peer group for anyone affected by a brain injury.
During the summer of 2019 I became a ‘Stroke Ambassador’ for the Stroke Association and in September 2019 I spoke at the international congress for Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) in Manchester which was a real honour and privilege.’
