There is no secret.
A recent FB comment prompted this blog post.
It’s sad that whenever someone achieves something so many people assume/ask what the secret is!? As well as the points below I think it undervalues the achievement made and is essentially saying ‘I hope there’s a quick fix as I couldn’t do that’.
It’s understandable in an age of social media, influencers & ‘celebrities’ who are too often selling something or speaking out of turn to gain ‘likes’.
Unfortunately I think this stems from the manipulation of society. Pretty much anything, that in truth, takes hard work & dedication is stated to be available via a shortcut, life hack, secret or a simple trick.
The truth is anything worth doing/achieving is only really possible through consistent, long term dedication to that goal/purpose. It is something repeated over and over for a long time, often a very long time.
Underpinning this is a lack of commitment, awareness & focus.
People have lost the ability to be bored &/or alone as we have become accustomed to being constantly & consistently entertained, checked on & pandered to. When did we stop saying “well that’s tough” or simply “no”?
Study any philosophy, way of life or pastime and you’ll quickly find almost everything is repeated one way or another & has been for hundreds if not thousands of years.
Go and explore a few things, keep with what you enjoy & over time scrap those you don’t like so much or have enough time for. Too often we’re told you can do anything in life, be anything you want, & as a result so many things are started, stopped & then dumped in favour of the next new/best thing to come along. This results in a very thin amount of experience that stops before any benefit/real interest can form. The people who have found their ‘thing’ or selection of ‘things’ generally, repeatedly do those same things over & over...funny enough they get better at them.
There is no secret. In truth it’s quite boring, hence the need to get comfortable with boredom.
